Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler that is used for cosmetically replacing lost volume and restoring the youthful contours to the skin, smoothing away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is frequently injected into the nasolabial fold (the crease between the corners of the nostrils and the corners of the mouth). Hyaluronic acid injections take approximately fifteen minutes and the results are immediate. There is minimal downtime and you can get back to your regular lifestyle as soon you leave the office. It can also be injected into superficial and deep creases of the face and lips.

Restylane, as previously described, is made of hyaluronic acid. This is naturally found in the body providing volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is premixed and measured, being supplied in a tuberculin syringe. It is slightly modified to last longer than the body’s hyaluronic acid. It is not made of any animal products; therefore allergy testing is not necessary before its use. Because of its hydrophilic properties, it has the ability to bind water molecules, drastically increasing its ability to maintain facial volume for about six months.

Juvederm is another hyaluronic acid filler, which works in a similar fashion to Restylane. Juvederm is FDA-approved and proven to be safe and effective for persons of color. The appearance enhancing results of Juvederm are immediate and may last up to one year. In fact, Juvederm is softer and more pliable than Restylane when injected by one of our eye surgeons who hold advanced training in facial cosmetic procedures.
